As with many educational establishments, Aylesford Primary School is barely recognisable when compared with its original presentation, as was constructed in the 1940s. Our growing population and development in teaching methods have demanded additional space in all our schools.
A requirement for an extension to create extra space came from the Valley Invicta Academies Trust back in 2021.
Abbott were appointed to deliver the works which originally comprised of a single storey block, to provide new general teaching rooms and a library.
We worked alongside OSG Architecture, b&m in the role of Principal Designer and Waldens Engineering on the Structural and Civils requirement.
Unexpected delays of around 3 months came in the form of an unrecorded gas main, discovered during works, so that the project was completed in November 2022.
Our original scope extended to upgrade the school’s heating and hot water system as well as refurbishing adjacent rooms to the extension, because there’s no point in doing a job unless you’re going to do it properly (as our founder Steve Abbott always said).
The project completed has provided the staff and students with a new reception area, a headteacher’s office, two new classrooms, a library, a new staffroom, toilet facilities, storage space, a secure outdoor space in the form of a courtyard, and an extended and newly surfaced carpark.
