Abbott Construction completed the development and construction of two contemporary family homes, occupying elevated panoramic views over Whitstable, Kent.
These exceptional detached houses were designed to include a high-end specification throughout with spacious, largely open plan living set out over three floors.
Externally we provided fully landscaped gardens to the developer’s specification, with an extensive decked balcony terrace complete with stainless steel handrail and glass balustrading leading directly from the kitchen/diner, to take advantage of the far reaching views across the bay.
Both units were constructed using traditional brick/blockwork methods with intermediate supporting structural steels where necessary, and pre-cast concrete plank floors. Slate roofing and an Eternit weatherboarding finish to the external skin enabled the two new houses to blend in immaculately with the other twelve houses along the street (built by Abbott as part of a previous phase).
Each home is provided with the benefit of a 10-year BLP Secure Home Warranty, which is backed by major multi-national insurance provider Allianz. The two houses were architecturally designed by award winning architect’s CPD Architecture Ltd.
Specific challenges on this project included an extremely tight sloping site with very little space for plant movements. This meant that there was a need to construct a large scale contiguous piled retaining wall at the rear of the site and to two site boundaries, effectively retaining the whole of the upper level of site and the land of two neighbouring properties. The piles were then lined with a 300mm thick waterproof concrete retaining wall complete with an insurance backed Newton tanking system to ensure water tightness to the whole of the lower ground floor level.
