In 2017 we successfully handed over the works at The Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone. The project involved the demolition of the schools existing changing rooms and old dilapidated gym building and replacing it with a more modern, user-friendly education space.

The extension provides a much-needed new gym, changing facilities and a brand-new fitness studio to compliment the schools existing main sports hall. Also provided are new offices for the P.E. department, and two new classrooms. All the works were completed on time and within budget, ready for the commencement of the new school term.

The project was secured via a competitive Two Stage Tender procurement method and Abbotts were heavily involved in the design process from an early stage. This meant that construction methods and materials could be discussed and agreed throughout the second stage tender process to ensure the contract sum fell within the schools budget. Further value engineering was also carried out during the construction phase meaning the school had additional funds available for much needed fixtures, fittings, and equipment.

The Harvey Grammar School was nominated at the LABC Building Excellence Awards as a regional finalist for Best Educational Building in 2018.
